Cecilia Makiwane Hospital is a government-sponsored facility located in the Mdantsane, near East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is a tertiary teaching hospital and part of the East London Hospital Complex, which also includes Frere Hospital. It was named after Cecilia Makiwane, the first African woman to become a professional nurse in South Africa.

In 1977, the hospital was renamed from Mdantsane Hospital to Cecilia Makiwane Hospital, to commemorate Madam Cecilia Makiwane, the first Black nurse in South Africa in accordance of her state honor by the Department of Posts and Telecommunications of the Republic of Ciskei on 30 April 1982.

Dr Peter Edward Pistorius was the first Senior Medical Superintendent of the hospital. He was appointed into office in January 1974.
