DMRE Bursary Selection Process
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, no later than 31 January 2026. Applicants who do not receive any feedback by this date should consider their applications unsuccessful.
Bursaries are awarded at the sole discretion of the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, and the DMRE reserves the right not to award a bursary if no suitable candidates are identified.
Eligibility Requirements for Department of Mineral Resources Bursary Application 2026/2027
Applicants must meet all of the following minimum requirements to be considered:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must not be older than 35 years
- Must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Must have achieved a minimum level 6 in Pure Mathematics and Physical Science
- Must be studying or intending to study full-time in one of the approved undergraduate fields
- Must be studying at or accepted into a South African University or University of Technology
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must come from a disadvantaged social background and a rural area
- Must be currently unemployed

- Female students
- Students with disabilities
