Field of Study Funded
Bursaries will be awarded for studies towards a:
- 3-Year Diploma in Nursing
- Leading to registration as a General Nurse (SANC R171)
- Studied at the North West College of Nursing

A total of 90 bursaries will be awarded as follows:

- 40 bursaries – Mafikeng Campus
Selection Process

Eligibility Requirements for North West Department of Health Bursary for 2026/2027
Applicants must meet all of the following minimum criteria:
General Requirements
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must reside within the North West Province
- Must have completed a Senior Certificate or National Senior Certificate (NSC)
- Must intend to study the 3-Year Diploma in Nursing in 2026
- Must meet the pre-entry assessment requirements of the College
- Must have a strong academic record
- Must be financially needy
- Must be unemployed
- Must NOT have previously received a bursary from any government department
- Applicants with disabilities are welcome to apply (provided the disability allows them to perform nursing duties)
Academic Requirements – Senior Certificate Matriculants
- Minimum C symbol (Standard Grade) or D symbol (Higher Grade) for:
- English
- Biology/Physiology

Academic Requirements – National Senior Certificate (NSC) Matriculants
- Minimum Level 4 for:

- English
- Life Sciences
- Any two other approved NSC subjects (excluding Life Orientation)
- Other subjects must total a minimum APS score of 23 points
