Bursary Coverage Value and Selection Process
The CHIETA bursary provides substantial financial support to successful applicants. Funding covers tuition fees up to a maximum value of:
- R76,000 per annum for undergraduate students
- R80,000 per annum for postgraduate students
If the full amount is not utilised for tuition, the remaining balance may be used to cover prescribed textbooks and other approved study-related expenses, provided it does not exceed the maximum bursary value.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If applicants do not receive feedback by 31 March, they should consider their application unsuccessful.
Eligibility Requirements for CHIETA Bursary Application 2026/2027
Applicants must meet all of the following minimum criteria to be considered for the CHIETA bursary:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be between 16 and 35 years old
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be studying full-time in one of the listed fields of study
- Must be registered at a recognised and accredited public tertiary institution in South Africa
Failure to meet any of the above requirements will result in the application not being considered.
