About Chris Hani District Municipality Bursary
The Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) is a Category C municipality located in the heart of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is made up of six local municipalities: Emalahleni, Engcobo, Enoch Mgijima, Intsika Yethu, Inxuba Yethemba, and Sakhisizwe.
The district’s economy is driven mainly by community services, followed by trade, finance, transport, agriculture, manufacturing, and electricity.

Eligibility Requirements for Chris Hani District Municipality Bursary Application 2026/2027
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must reside within the Chris Hani District Municipality (Emalahleni, Engcobo, Enoch Mgijima, Intsika Yethu, Inxuba Yethemba, or Sakhisizwe)
- Must have completed Matric with a minimum average of 60%
- Must be accepted to study in one of the fields listed above
- Must be accepted at a public university or university of technology in South Africa
- Must be from a previously disadvantaged community
- Must demonstrate financial need (household income not exceeding R15 000 per month)
- Must be willing to serve CHDM after graduation, for the same duration as the funding received

Download and complete the CHDA Bursary Application Form (.pdf) or collect it at the CHDA offices:

Applicants must submit the completed form along with the following compulsory supporting documents:
- Certified copy of South African ID document
- Certified copy of Unabridged Birth Certificate
- Certified copy of Matric final results and official NSC certificate
- Proof of acceptance at a public university or university of technology
- Proof of residence within the Chris Hani District (letter from ward councillor/municipal account/lease agreement)
- Certified copies of parents/guardians’ ID documents
- Proof of household income:

- If employed: payslips/letter from employer/sworn statement/tax return
- If self-employed: latest financial statements
- If unemployed: sworn affidavit
