About Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA)

The origins of the PSSA can be traced back to 1885, when seven pharmacists met in King Williamstown, laying the foundation for organised pharmacy practice in South Africa. Over the years, regional branches and pharmaceutical societies were established across the country.

In 1946, these societies were formally amalgamated to form the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA). Today, the PSSA serves as a leading professional body for pharmacists, with a mission to advance the pharmacy profession, promote the responsible use of medicines, and improve patient care outcomes nationwide.
