More About The SARF Bursary Programme – Expenses Covered & Responsibilities

The SARF bursary is a partial bursary that assists students with study-related expenses. The bursary amount is determined by the student’s financial need and the decision of the SARF Council.

Bursary recipients will be required to:

  • Deliver a presentation to their local SARF branch on their field of study
  • Submit a progress report every 6 months
  • Register as an Associate Member of SARF
Eligibility Requirements for South African Road Federation Bursary Application 2026/2027

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered (applications that do not meet all requirements will not be accepted):

  • Preference is given to South African residents, but students from SADC member countries may also apply (Angola, Botswana, Comoros, DRC, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe)
  • Must be studying towards a qualification in one of the listed road transport fields
  • Must be registered at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa (University, University of Technology, or equivalent)
  • Application must be endorsed by the academic authority at your institution
  • National Diploma students: must have passed first semester (S1) exams
  • Degree students: must have passed first-year exams
  • Preference given to students at advanced levels (MTech, MSc, or higher), though undergraduates may also apply
  • Preference for full-time students, but part-time and distance learning students may also apply
  • Preference given to employees of SARF member organisations
  • Must plan to work in the South African road transport industry after graduation
