About the UFS Doctoral Scholarship Programme 2026/2027

The SARChI Chair in Higher Education and Human Development (HEHD) at UFS invites applications from eligible candidates for a full-time Doctoral Scholarship in Development Studies for the 2026 academic year.

Eligibility Requirements for UFS Doctoral Scholarship Application for 2026/2027

Applicants must meet all of the following minimum requirements to be considered:

  • Must be a South African citizen or international student
  • Must intend to pursue full-time doctoral research at UFS in 2026
  • Must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Master’s degree must have been completed within the last 5 years
  • Must have achieved a minimum overall average of 70% at Master’s level
  • Must not be employed full-time and must remain unemployed for the duration of the fellowship
  • Must be willing to reside full-time at UFS and relocate if necessary

Failure to meet any of the above criteria will result in disqualification.
