About Black Mountain Mining Company

Black Mountain Mining (BMM) is a mining operation located in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. The company is jointly owned by Exxaro Resources and Vedanta-Zinc International (VZI). Although the mine has been in operation since 1980, it was acquired by Vedanta Resources from Anglo American in 2010.

The mine currently consists of a processing plant and two underground shafts:

  • Swartberg Shaft – produces lead, copper, and silver (as a by-product)
  • Deeps Shaft – produces lead, copper, zinc, and silver (as a by-product)
