Eligibility Requirements for CSIR Bursary Application 2026/2027

Undergraduate & Honours applicants:

Must be a South African citizen under 35 years old.
Must be studying (or planning to study) full-time in one of the listed fields in 2026.
Must attend a recognised public university in South Africa.
Must have a strong academic record (minimum 65% average).
Must have passed all courses if currently studying.
Must be unemployed.
Preference will be given to disadvantaged applicants and NSFAS beneficiaries.

Master’s & Doctoral applicants:

Must be a South African citizen under 35 years old.
Must be studying (or planning to study) full-time in one of the approved fields in 2026.
Must meet entry requirements for Master’s/PhD at a public South African university.
Must have a strong academic record (minimum 65% average).
Must be unemployed.
Must demonstrate motivation, initiative, good communication, organisational and research skills.
Must be able to work independently and in a team, handle pressure, and meet deadlines.
Preference will be given to disadvantaged applicants and NSFAS beneficiaries.
