About The Department Of Transport Bursary Programme 2026/2027
Fields Covered

In partnership with UNISA, the Department of Transport is inviting students to apply for its bursary programme for the 2026 academic year.

The bursary is designed to support students in pursuing careers within the transport sector and is available for the following fields of study at UNISA:

Undergraduate Studies:

  • Civil Engineering (Advanced Diploma)
  • Civil Engineering (Diploma)
  • Logistics (BCom)
  • Transport Economics (BCom)

Postgraduate Studies:

  • Logistics (Honours)
  • Transport Economics (Honours)
Expenses Covered, Renewal & Selection

The bursary will cover tuition fees and prescribed textbooks.

Please note:

  • The bursary does not cover failed or repeated modules.
  • Existing loans or debts will not be funded.
  • Students must reapply for funding each year. Failure to pass your studies may result in the cancellation of the bursary.

Applicants will be selected by a bursary selection committee. Successful candidates will be notified of the outcome via their myLife email account.

Eligibility Requirements the Department of Transport Bursary Application 2026/2027

To apply, students must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must not be older than 35 years
  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must be studying at UNISA
  • Must be registered for one of the listed qualifications (NQF level 6 to 8)
  • Must have achieved at least 50% overall average in the previous year of study
  • Must have passed at least 50% of registered/funded modules (if a returning bursary recipient)
  • Must be unemployed
