About ETDP SETA

The Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA) was first established in March 2000 under the Skills Development Act (No. 97 of 1998). It was later renewed in 2010 and again in 2018.

ETDP SETA’s main role is to improve the skills profile of South Africa’s Education, Training and Development (ETD) sector. It also helps create employment opportunities, especially for individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

What The Bursary Covers

The bursary may include:

  • Tuition fees
  • Learning materials (books, laptop, stationery)
  • Accommodation & meal allowance

Students staying in university-owned accommodation will have meals included in their housing fees.

Students staying in university-accredited private accommodation will receive the meal allowance directly.

The bursary amount varies depending on your qualification. Payments are made directly to the institution.

Only successful applicants will be contacted. If you don’t hear back by 31 March 2026, your application was unsuccessful.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be unemployed
  • Have completed Matric (NSC)
  • Be studying or intending to study in one of the listed fields
  • Be accepted/registered at a recognised and accredited institution in South Africa (university, TVET college, university of technology, or accredited private/public institution)
  • Not be receiving another bursary
