The JSE Empowerment Fund (JEF) is offering bursaries for the 2026 academic year to deserving students.

Bursaries will be awarded for Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Honours level) studies at selected South African universities, in the following fields:

Eligibility Requirements for Johannesburg Stock Exchange Bursary Application 2026/2027

To be considered, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must be studying full-time towards a degree in one of the listed fields
  • Must be entering 2nd year, 3rd year, or Honours level of study in 2026
  • Must be registered at one of the following universities:
    • University of Pretoria (UP)
    • University of Johannesburg (UJ)
    • University of the Witwatersrand (Wits)
    • University of Cape Town (UCT)
    • University of Limpopo (UL)
    • University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN)
    • University of the Free State (UFS)
    • University of Fort Hare (UFH)
    • Nelson Mandela University (NMU)
    • North-West University (NWU)
  • Must have a strong academic record with at least 70% average
  • Household income must not exceed R650 000 per year
  • Must be from a previously disadvantaged background and designated group
