Founded in 1891, the Master Builders and Allied Trades’ Association, Western Cape (MBAWC) is the oldest construction-related organisation in South Africa. It is affiliated with Master Builders South Africa (MBSA) and represents over 400 member companies, including builders, subcontractors, product suppliers, manufacturers, and building merchants.

About the MBAWC Bursary Programme 2026/2027

The MBAWC MBADT Bursary is open for applications for the 2025 academic year, offering financial support to students pursuing qualifications within the Built Environment sector at Western Cape tertiary institutions.

Bursary Coverage & Selection Process
The MBAWC bursary provides funding for one academic year, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory academic progress.
Coverage Includes:
- Tuition fees only (paid in two instalments directly to the tertiary institution)
- 1st instalment: Upon approval of funding
- 2nd instalment: After mid-year academic performance review
Selection & Notification:
- Successful applicants will be notified no later than 14 February 2025.
- Candidates must accept or decline the offer within 3 working days.
- If no feedback is received by 17 February 2025, the application should be considered unsuccessful.
Eligibility Requirements for the MBAWC Bursary
To qualify, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must have completed Matric at a school in the Western Cape
- Must be studying or planning to study one of the approved Built Environment qualifications in 2025
- Must study at a recognised Western Cape tertiary institution
- Must NOT qualify for NSFAS (household income must be between R350 000 and R600 000 annually)
- Must NOT receive any other bursary or SETA/CETA funding
- Preference will be given to:

- Employees of MBAWC member companies or their dependants
- Applicants employed by a BIBC-compliant company (minimum 24 months uninterrupted)

Step 2: Submit the Required Supporting Documents
Attach clear, certified copies of the following:
- South African ID
- Latest academic results / transcript
- Proof of acceptance from a tertiary institution (on letterhead)
- Motivational letter
- Parents’/guardians’ proof of income

- Affidavit (if unemployed)
- Pension or grant proof (if applicable)
- Income affidavit as per application form
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
