Eligibility Requirements for South African Association of Botanists Scholarship 2026/2027

To be considered for the SAAB Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a resident of a SADC country, including:
    South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini (Swaziland), Angola, Malawi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Seychelles, Mozambique, Mauritius, Madagascar, or Comoros.
  • Must be studying towards a postgraduate qualification in Botany or a related field.
  • Must have achieved a minimum overall average of 70%.
  • Must be registered at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa.
  • Must have a supervisor who is a paid-up member of SAAB.

Additional requirement for MSc students:

  • Must hold a BSc Honours degree with a minimum average of 70%.
  • Must be in the first year of MSc study.
