About Department Of Infrastructure (Bursary Provider)
The Department of Infrastructure in the Western Cape oversees public works, transport networks, housing projects, and community development initiatives such as the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).
In 2006, the Department launched the Masakh’iSizwe (MiS) Bursary Programme to tackle skills shortages in the province while empowering young people to pursue full-time tertiary studies. The programme provides financial assistance to deserving students, helping them earn qualifications at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) within the Western Cape.
Each year, the Department partners with universities, NGOs, and professional bodies to fund students in the transport, engineering, and built environment sectors, as well as in other disciplines identified as scarce and critical by the Department of Infrastructure.

Fields Covered
The Western Cape Government is inviting applications for the Masakh’iSizwe Bursary for the 2026 academic year.
Funding is available for Degree or Diploma studies in the following fields:

- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
- Geomatics
- Mechanical Engineering
- Property Studies
- Quantity Surveying
- Town, City & Regional Planning
- Transport Economics / Transport Studies
Students must study at one of the following institutions in the Western Cape:
- University of Cape Town (UCT)
- Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)
- Stellenbosch University (SU)
Bursaries may also be awarded in other scarce and critical fields as identified by the Department.
