About Moses Kotane Institute (MKI)
The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) was originally established in 2007 as the South African National Liberation Institute of Technology, Philosophy and Political Science (SANLITPPS). It was named in honour of Moses Mauane Kotane – a respected self-taught leader, former General Secretary of the South African Communist Party, and Treasurer of the African National Congress. Although he had no formal education, he strongly believed that economic freedom could be achieved through education in strategic fields.
In 2009, MKI was officially registered as a non-profit company. By 2018, the institute was relaunched as a Research Institute, focusing on key areas such as Research and Development, Maritime, Economics, Innovation, and Technology.
